❤ WHAT'S INCLUDED
Our bird nesting "refill" kit comes in a quart size bag. Each kit contains enough fiber to refill an empty "standard size" suet feeder (that holds 1 suet cake). Be sure to "fluff up" the fiber before filling to help the birds get it out. If you fluff up the fiber really well, you may be able to refill it more than once. 👍
❤ WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT
We sort all our alpaca fiber by hand and use the good quality fluff from the necks and blanket area of our alpacas. We do not use any leg or belly fiber as "bag fillers" which is more coarse, may have poop beans, and can be overly hairy as well as overly matted making it harder for the birds to pull apart and use.
After sorting the fiber we tumble our fiber in a fiber tumbler - yup, we have one of those!
This helps us (1) further remove any excessive dirt (alpacas love to roll!) and (2) helps fluff up the fiber a little making it easier for the birds to use. 😊
Your alpaca fiber will arrive "freshened up and ready-to-go". It remains unwashed to ensure there is no soap residue that could potentially be harmful to birds or other wildlife. As a result, you may find little pieces of hay left behind - these special finds simply add to the charm.
Since alpaca fiber does not contain any lanolin (as found in sheep's wool), it is naturally soft (without washing) and ready for birds to use.
